One cannot hear a slow air played with depth of feeling on a tin whistle by a true Celt without being drawn into, and sharing, the emotions expressed by the player. When Robert Clarke invented the Tin whistle in 1843, little did he know that it would become the perfect wind instrument to be played universally in all the Celtic lands. It can be heard in concert halls, broadcasts, churches and, above all, especially in Ireland, in the pubs. It is easy to play; inexpensive; and can be carried so as to be available for performances on all occasions. The Clarke Celtic Tin whistle in the Key of D comes with its own fingering chart and five traditional Celtic tunes, one each from Wales, Scotland and Brittany and two from Ireland. The whistle comes decorated with a Celtic Knot and is individually gift boxed.

it was delivered on time and in brand new condition as promised but its not that different from a recorder. My recommendation don't bother with an irish tin whistle cause its just a recorder with a fancy name.
Beautiful Tin Whistle
Ok, so maybe it doesn't play any better than my red Clark Sweetone, but I think it does. This is a beautiful tin whistle, and I really do enjoy playing it. I count it an affordable luxury. It was shipped promptly, well packed and well, it's just beautiful. While I am not an experienced player, when I practice with the CD, it does sound just the same, so would say it has perfect tone.

Takes Some Practice...
I ordered this tin whistle just for the halibut one day. I have a friend who plays the tin whistle very well, and the instrument sounds wonderful, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
Now, when my tin whistle arrived, it was not the same one as in the picture. It was still a Clarke Sweetone, but it was blue rather than green. This didn't bother me much; it still worked the same.
I do have to point out that it does take some practice to get a really good tune out of it. Without practice, it sounds a bit obnoctious and squeaky, like a recorder. You just have to control your flow of breath, and you get a wonderful tune.
It is really a very easy instrument to learn, though. Within the first day I purchased it, I was able to play a very nice rendition of "Going Home" from "The New World".
Overall, if you have the patience to practice air flow and tone, this is a wonderful instrument, very easy to play and excellent for the price.
Excellent sound
I've gotten used to cheap straight cylindrical whistles (Oak and Acorn, specifically), but the Clarke definitely has a superior sound. The other two are kinda squeaky. The only down sides that I have experienced, are getting used to the seam on the bottom, that is necessary to form the tapered whistle, and it takes more air to produce the notes. Not only does this cut down on the time between breaths, but it also makes it more difficult to do cheater vibrato by moving the whistle while you play. I've tried with the Clarke, but it just doesn't work. Aside from that, it's great.
